House-idea

Gather House

Our inspiration for the Gather House project came from the importance of direct communication and interaction between family members.

We aimed to design a house that would foster a strong emotional connection among the residents. The house is located in Trang Bom town, Dong Nai district, Vietnam, and is home to a Catholic family of five, including parents and three children.

The ground floor features a lamellar roofed car park that provides ventilation and doesn’t block the view of the interior spaces. Inside, there is a living room, kitchen, dining room, parents’ bedroom, and office.

On the second floor, you will find the children’s space, which includes three bedrooms that face a lobby and a common corridor, allowing the children to interact and connect regularly. The stair landing is designed as a large reading area, and the wide corridor incorporates a bar for relaxing together.

From the lobby, corridor, and stairs of the 2nd and 3rd floors, one can observe and connect with the kitchen and living room areas thanks to the atrium.

This design enables children to watch their mother cook and feel the taste of the food. The front area on the third floor is a family prayer retreat with a window overlooking the church and a terrace for relaxation surrounded by trees.

The back of the house is planned as a gallery for family memorabilia and drying space. The middle of the roof features concrete slats combined with a glass roof to allow natural light to filter in. The pyramidal design of the roof windows and facade matches the shape of the nearby church, creating a harmonious whole on the exterior.

Inside, we kept the design simple and straightforward, highlighting the importance of natural light.

The cutting of many doorways in different positions combined with the glass roof in the middle of the house creates many alternating light rays on the wall, making the space interesting. Natural light is crucial, and the light will change every hour, keeping the space dynamic and engaging.

We were inspired by the Catholic faith’s belief in light and the idea that when God created the world, He created light
